How does it work?
Clicker 4 Inverter Shield 2 is an extension for Clicker 4 series boards from MIKROE based on advanced components designed for high-performance motor control and communication. The board features a 3-phase inverter using Toshiba’s low RDS(ON) power MOSFETs, combined with an integrated gate driver and easily configurable through the SPI interface. The 3-phase inverter design uses SSM6K819R, LF low RDS(ON) power MOSFETs from Toshiba Semiconductor. These MOSFETs offer industry-leading performance, meeting the demand for compact and efficient power components and ensuring reliable and efficient operation of the inverter.
The board also integrates the TB67Z833S, a three-phase gate driver IC from Toshiba Semiconductor. The TB67Z833S features three independent half-bridge gate drivers, a charge pump, a linear regulator, and integrates three current amplifiers with programmable gain, which reduces system complexity while delivering robust performance for three-phase motor drive applications. The board includes the MAX14890E incremental encoder receiver from Analog Devices for feedback Hall sensor signal processing. This IC provides four differential and two single-ended receivers, simplifying the processing of feedback signals for precise motor control.
It also carries a CAN transceiver, rounding out the functionality of the board ideal for various motor control applications. The Microchip MCP2561FD high-speed CAN transceiver enables reliable communication via the CAN protocol, a widely adopted ISO standard (ISO 11898) for industrial and automotive applications. The MCP2561FD supports CAN FD bit rates exceeding 2Mbps, low quiescent current, and excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance. The CAN network differential signals (CANL and CANH) are exposed via terminal block TB6, while TX/RX signals are connected through a side header for seamless integration.
This combination of components ensures that the Clicker 4 Inverter Shield 2 delivers exceptional performance, reliability, and ease of use for motor control and communication in various applications.
MCU Motor Studio 4.0
Clicker 4 Inverter Shield 2 is fully compatible with Toshiba’s MCU Motor Studio 4.0, a powerful development environment for BLDC motor control based on TXZ+™ Advanced Class microcontrollers. This all-in-one tool combines a PC-based configuration and diagnostics application with scalable motor control firmware, enabling Field Oriented Control (FOC) and rapid application development. With real-time waveform display, parameter adjustment, and performance diagnostics via high-speed UART, developers can fine-tune motor behavior and optimize performance with ease. The tool also supports sensorless control using Toshiba’s unique single-shunt method for accurate current detection across a wide speed range. When paired with a Clicker 4 for TMPM4K or Clicker 4 for TMPM3H board and the Inverter Shield 2, MCU Motor Studio 4.0 allows evaluation, prototyping, and deployment of BLDC motor control solutions.
