How does it work?
CC3000 Click is based on the CC3000MOD, a Wi-Fi 802.11b/g network processor from the SimpleLink™ series from Texas Instruments. This board has integrated radio, modem, and MAC supporting WLAN communication as a BSS station with CCK and OFDM rates from 1 to 54Mbps in the 2.4GHz ISM band over a chip SMD antenna. This radio is auto-calibrated and enables easy connection to the antenna. Regarding security, CC3000MOD features WEP, WPA, and WPA2 with on-chip accelerators. It also has an integrated EEPROM, which stores firmware patches, network configuration, and MAC address, and has a 5KB user data accessible storage, enhancing MCU NVM. This EEPROM can be programmed over APIs from the host MCU, allowing over-the-air (OTA) firmware.
This Click board™ uses an SPI serial interface (five-line communication with SPI interrupt on IRQ pin of the mikroBUS™ socket) to communicate to the host MCU over the mikroBUS™ socket. Host MCU can also disable the WiFi module with a low logic level on the EN pin of the mikroBUS™ socket. The CC3000 Click comes with a TM/FM solder jumper that enables the user to enter the test mode while the function mode is selected by default. In addition, on this Click board™, there are RX and TX PTHs as part of the Test Mode serial interface and can be used for connecting the radio test tool, an external PC-based software test utility during the development and evaluation phase.
This Click board™ can only be operated from a 3.3V logic voltage level. Therefore, the board must perform appropriate logic voltage level conversion before using MCUs with different logic levels. However, the Click board™ comes equipped with a library containing functions and an example code that can be used as a reference for further development.
