How does it work?
BLE2 Click is based on the RN4020, a Bluetooth Low Energy module from Microchip. The RN4020 includes 64KB of internal Flash memory. A neat feature of this module is a Microchip Low-energy Data Profile (MLDP) which enables an asynchronous serial data connection between two RN4020, which could be two BLE2 Click boards™. The module can be remotely controlled or updated Over the Air, by another module over a secure connection, or can be controlled/updated through its UART interface. In terms of security, the RN4020 comes with AES128 encryption.
BLE2 Click uses a standard UART interface, with commonly used UART RX and TX pins as its default communication protocol for exchanging AT commands operating at 115200 bps by default configuration to transmit and exchange data with the host MCU. Additional functionalities on this Click board™ come through pins of the mikroBUS™ socket. The module does not have a standard reset feature but a deep sleep-wake function. The WKE pin should be pulled in a HIGH logic state to make it run properly. The wake status is visually presented via the blue WAKE LED. The module connection status is visually presented via the green CONN LED while the host MCU is acknowledged over the CON pin. The CMD pin changes the mode between the Command mode and MLDP, with a LOW logic state for Command mode and HIGH for MLDP.
This Click board™ can only be operated with a 3.3V logic voltage level. The board must perform appropriate logic voltage level conversion before using MCUs with different logic levels. However, the Click board™ comes equipped with a library containing functions and an example code that can be used, as a reference, for further development.
